***The second in a 2-part series designed to help you choose and enjoy a no-fuss bustle!***
Once you have met with your seamstress and have established which bustle is best for your dress and vision, there are a few things to keep in mind that will help keep the bustling of your gown stress-free.
1. Be sure to bring someone with you on your final fitting so that both of you are familiar with the bustle and know how and where your points will be fastened.
2. If you have an underbustle, start by having your assitant hand you your hemline from behind so that you can hold up the entire skirt giving her complete access to the ties.
3. The ties will be either numbered or color coded. Simply start with the center seam of the skirt and do this connection first. From there continue from side to side until all matching ties are paired and tied securely.
4. Bustling should only be done once you have arrived at your final destination of the evening. Bustling prior to your car ride from the ceremony to the reception site is a no-no. (sliding across the back seat is a sure way to add unneccessary stress to the ties or loops!)
5. No matter how securely your seamstress has sewn in your ties or loops, and regardless of how tightly those connections have been made by your assistant, there is still a chance that a point could be damaged or come out during the night. (weight of the dress, clumsy Uncle Fred who can't keep his feet off the back of your dress, etc.) Be sure to tuck a couple of safety pins in your emergency kit so that such a situation can be easily remedied.
6. Always unbustle your gown prior to having it cleaned and preserved.
